Our clients approached us regarding securing Planning permission and building a ModBox garden annexe at their bungalow near Perranporth.
The objective of the exercise being for the ‘middle generation’ to sell their own property they had outgrown, release capital into the family, and fund a stylish new garden annexe for the ‘elder generation’ to move into. In turn the new annexe allows for the middle generation to take on the larger family bungalow.
This approach has several advantages to the family. Firstly, the elder generation will get to enjoy a brand new purpose-built annexe, warm, well insulated, low running cost and with minimal maintenance responsibilities. In addition, with family on site, it caters for the support they may come to require in the course of the coming years.
Secondly, for the middle generation, it relieved the strain of being in a property less suited to their current and future needs, whilst bringing everyone together on one site. With this in mind, extended-family-living also has the prospect of the elder generation enjoying seeing their grandson more as he grows up.
From a design point of view, the clients wished us to tailor our ‘classic’ ModBox ‘inset-front’ cedar clad design to their site position, which required careful consideration of both site lay-out and window positions.
We are working with our clients, on a ‘from first sketch to receiving your keys’ basis carrying out all areas of design, obtaining planning consent, construction, connection of services and building regulation compliance.
As requested by the client the annexe design took inspiration from our popular ‘classic’ ModBox appearance with an open-plan living, dining and kitchen area, ample size shower-room and two bedrooms – one master and one secondary size room.
